Pointedly, Huang mused that the realization of AGI hinges on the criteria by which we measure such intelligence. If a litmus test for AGI is the machine’s capacity to pass a multitude of human-designed assessments, the prediction is that in five years, AI could excel in every metric put forward by the computer science community. This comes at a moment when Nvidia’s worth has surged, reflecting a market value of $2 trillion just last week.

Adding to this skepticism, Yann LeCun of Meta, a respected figure in deep learning, has previously countered such timelines for full-fledged AGI, suggesting that our AI trajectory may first achieve animal-level intelligence before venturing into the human realm. LeCun also emphasized that a profound focus on text-based models and AI images generator capabilities isn’t sufficient to conjure the advanced AI systems once envisaged.
